Chronicling two decades of constancy and upheaval, loss, racial injustice, and class strife, readers generations from now will receive a deep look at the Crescent City before, during and after Katrina.
That They Lived takes a unique look at the childhoods and turning points of 21 history making African Americans. The target audience is children but the insight given really makes it a book for adults as well.

Last year, SmithGeiger took a deep dive into six distinct and diverse media markets across the country and found that the reporting practice appeals more to our audiences. The National Association of Black Journalists Founders Reception honors the 44 men and women who came together in 1975 to establish the organization. During the reception, we also recognize those who have supported the mission of NABJ over the years. The reception is attended by Founders, NABJ Board members, past NABJ Presidents, distinguished guests, and members.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the reception. We still have about 30 Founders living and about 20 remain actively engaged in NABJ and attend the yearly convention. We will have a special tribute to the Founding Executive Director Paul Brock, who passed away earlier this year and was instrumental in organizing the first Founders Reception.
CBS National News Correspondent Michelle Miller will also interview AARP CEO JoAnn Jenkins in a fireside chat on the health and wealth gaps Black Americans face and pathways to greater health and financial security.
