What is our event about?

So you’ve found your calling in psychiatry. Now what are your options? Is it possible to create an ideal career path tailored to your interests and strengths in psychiatry? How will you decide whether to start a fellowship or go directly into practice? What fellowships are available anyway?

Join us at this live virtual co-creation event.

This event consists of two interactive virtual sessions intended for residents, fellows, early career psychiatrists and anyone else who wants to explore the breadth of options in psychiatry and see what the profession will look like in the future. In the first session, you’ll learn how our panelists landed their first job and how they then navigated opportunities into their current role in psychiatry. They’ll tell you what they wish they knew when they were a resident and give you a head start on getting the skills you’ll need that aren’t taught in residency. The second session will connect and engage all attendees in a discussion on access to care, parity, reimbursement and changing payment models.

As the session video plays, a chat will run simultaneously, where attendees will be sharing their own experiences. Psychiatrists representing a range of fellowship opportunities, in subspecialties such as child and adolescent and forensic psychiatry, will also be available to answer frank questions in the chat! This is a co-creation event, which means we’ll be gathering insights from the ensuing discussion and using them to design our profession’s virtual event that will be held in January. FAQ (How it works)

Who is putting on this event?

The production of the virtual conference is a partnership between the New York County Psychiatric Association, the Colorado Psychiatric Society, and Matchbox Virtual Media.

The New York County Psychiatric Association (NYCPS) is composed of over 1,800 psychiatrists in Manhattan and Staten Island, and is the largest district branch of the American Psychiatric Association.

The Colorado Psychiatric Society (CPS) is an association of physicians whose mission is to promote excellence in psychiatric care through advocacy, education, and research. CPS is a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association with approximately 450 psychiatrists who practice throughout the state of Colorado.

Matchbox Virtual Media creates virtual conferences that drive conversations that matter and foster connections that last. Matchbox provides purpose driven organizations strategies to build collaborative networks and leverage the knowledge and experience of their members in order to facilitate progress, education, and awareness.

What is the format of the conference?

This event is from 8:00 – 9:30 PM EDT on September 5, 2019. The sessions are pre-recorded. Pre-recording allows the speakers to spend the entire session period in the attendee chat answering your burning questions. At the same time, you’ll be able to communicate with the other attendees through the same chat.

Where is this event located?

This conference exists in the virtual space, as it gives us the opportunity to bring together professionals from around the world.

How can I ask speakers questions during the event?

The sessions are pre-recorded so that the speakers can spend the time answering attendee questions. They will be typing furiously to reply to as many questions as possible in the live chat!

Will there be opportunities to communicate with the speakers after their specific sessions?

This will depend on individual preference of our speakers.

Can I communicate with other participants?

Absolutely! After you register, you can immediately start communicating with fellow attendees in our forum. Throughout the sessions, there will also be a chat running simultaneously.

Will I have access to the sessions after the fact?

If you register before September 5th, you will be given access to watch the recorded sessions at any point after the event.

Is there an opportunity to sponsor/advertise within the event?

Absolutely! Contact hello@psychsummit.org to set up a call. We’re looking forward to talking with you!

What platform are you using to stream the event?

Matchbox Virtual Media is proudly partnered with CE21 to put on this event.

Are there any browsers that your platform does not support?

The quality will be a little funky on Internet Explorer 8. Although we highly recommend Chrome for the smoothest user experience on any website, here’s a handy link to download Edge, which is Microsoft’s move away from IE:

My question hasn't been answered in this Q&A. How might I satisfy my curiosity?

Email your question to hello@psychsummit.org If you’re asking, you’re not the only one, and you will help us make our Q&A complete!

First time hearing about PsychSummit?

That’s because it’s brand new, and an experiment in collaboration on a global scale. On January 16th we are inviting psychiatrists to discuss and design the future of the profession. What can happen when we have practitioners from around the world share their expertise, experience and insights under one virtual roof?  We get a massive pool of knowledge that will serve to advance the profession!

Why are we holding this first event in September? Because who better to start discussing the future of psychiatry than those who are just entering the profession. That’s why during the September event, we will also be crowdsourcing ideas and input from attendees, which will help shape the narrative of January’s PsychSummit.
