Ava Thompson Greenwell

Ava Thompson Greenwell teaches reporting at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She has held several administrative posts, including associate dean for curriculum. She co-curated NABJ’S Ida B. Wells award for more than a decade and served as the organization’s 2017 Program Chair. Greenwell is author of Ladies Leading: The Black Women Who Control Television News. She is also the director/producer of “Mandela in Chicago,” a documentary about Chicago’s Anti-Apartheid Movement. She has worked as a reporter at WTTW-TV, WGN-TV, WFLA-TV, WCCO-TV and WEHT-TV. In addition to degrees in journalism, she holds a Ph.D. in African American Studies.
