Christel McGuigan is the current High School Assistant Principal for Academics at Mid-Pacific Institute, in Mānoa, Hawaiʻi. Christel began her career as a Spanish instructor at The Bishop’s School (CA) and became the first Director of Diversity of the school. Christel has served as the Director of Multicultural Programs at the Greenhill School (TX) and the Director of Equity and Instruction at Lakeside School (WA). Christel has led schools in the development and implementation of diversity and equity programs, creation of strategic plans specific to diversity and inclusion, evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices, and the recruitment and hiring of faculty of color.

Christel was born and raised on Oʻahu, Hawai’i. She identifies as hapa haole (biracial). Christel is a first-generation college graduate from the University of Hawaiʻi. She and her husband are raising their children Lucas (7) and Layla (3) in their ancestral culture and land.
