Dalila-Johari Paul is the Race and Equality team’s senior editor at CNN. Paul started as a digital news editor for CNN Digital in 2016 and was later promoted to supervisor for coverage on late night and early morning shifts. She’s overseen news coverage of countless stories, most notably mass shootings in Las Vegas, Thousand Oaks in California and the El Paso Walmart massacre; and most recently the coronavirus global pandemic, as well as the summer of protests over police shootings and America’s racial reckoning. Before her time at CNN, she held various editorial positions at the Guardian U.S., CNBC, the Star-Ledger, and the Hartford Courant. She started as a Metpro (Minority Editorial Training Program) trainee at Newsday in Long Island, New York. Her first day in the newsroom was Sept. 11, 2001. The Queens-bred New York City native holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rutgers University, and is hoping to complete a collection of short stories in 2021.
