Derrick Jackson

Derrick Z. Jackson is an at-large writer and photographer after a long career at the Boston Globe and Newsday. Ten-time winner of NABJ awards, 2021 Opinion Writing Winner in the Scripps Howard Awards, 2018 Winner in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists contest and 2020 Second-Place finisher in the Society of Environmental Journalists contest. 2001 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Photography earned Third-Place in the 2020 BirdWatching Magazine Photography Awards and Honorable Mention in BirdWatching’s Color of Birds contest. Two-time Semifinalist in Outdoor Magazine’s The American Landscape Contest and in Nature’s Best Photography Awards.
