Dr. Sherri Williams is the assistant professor in race, media and communication in the journalism division at American University. She teaches classes on race and representation in journalism and entertainment media. Williams is the co-founder and co-director of the award-winning national journalism project “Black on Campus” which documented experiences of Black college students during increased racism on college campuses and was published by The Nation magazine. In 2020, Williams partnered with The Nation again for the project “Vision 2020: Election Stories from the Next Generation,” which amplified diverse young voters’ 2020 presidential election concerns. Williams, an award-winning journalist, was a reporter for a decade including at the Associated Press. Williams, a graduate of the HBCU Jackson State University, still occasionally writes for national media outlets.
