Larry Spruill Jr. is an Emmy award-winning journalist with nearly 15 years of news and storytelling experience. He has made his name as a jack-of-all-trades: Larry can be seen reporting the hard news, undertaking exclusive feature pieces and conducting interviews with notable African Americans and public officials. Since being in Detroit, Larry has played a pivotal role reporting the news during the Detroit Black Lives Matter protests. These large-scale gatherings garnered national attention as a result of the racial tension throughout the nation due to untimely deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and Breonna Taylor. He was handpicked by his news director for this news beat, and for most of the summer put himself in harm’s way; to ensure these important stories were shared in a professional and authentic manner with his audience, specifically the Black Community. Larry is committed to excellence in everything that he does and takes his career very seriously. Also, he provided exclusive coverage during the following large-scale stories, which gained the national spotlight: COVID-19 Pandemic from a Detroit perspective, Dayton Mass Shooting, and Aretha Franklin’s Funeral. Prior to arriving in Detroit, Larry worked at WJAX in Jacksonville, Florida. When Hurricane Irma came blowing through Florida, he was one of the lead reporters working around the clock. Larry also worked for WJCL-TV in Savannah, Georgia and WGXA-TV in Macon, Georgia. He began his career at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia.
