Mariana joined the California Association of Independent Schools as Director of Accreditation in 2016. She oversees the accreditation process for more than 230 member schools as well as the process for schools seeking membership. Her experience in education spans over three decades and her work in public schools includes working in traditional public schools, charter schools, and serving as a charter school coordinator with the Los Angeles County Office of Education. She was the Director of Liberal Studies and Assistant Professor of Education in the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University from 2009-2013. Mariana served as Lower School Director of Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA from 2001-2009. She grew up in Santa Ana, CA and attended the public schools in that school district. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from California State University Los Angeles, and a Doctorate in Urban Educational Leadership from Claremont Graduate University. She served on the boards of El Centro de Acción Social and Young and Healthy in Pasadena, CA where she lives with her son Ben.
