Peter Foltz is Research Professor at the University of Colorado’s Institute of Cognitive Science and Vice President in Pearson’s AI and Products Solutions Organization. His work covers artificial intelligence and uses of machine learning and natural language processing for educational and clinical assessments and large-scale data analytics. Much of his work has focused on AI-based techniques for automatically analyzing the meaning of language through writing and speaking. The approaches are used for assessing abilities and emotional states, for providing feedback, and for understanding underlying cognitive mechanisms in the brain. The methods he has pioneered are used by millions of people annually. Peter has authored more than 170 journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers, as well as multiple patents. He previously worked at New Mexico State University, Bell Communications Research, the University of Pittsburgh, Yale University, and the Harvard Institute for International Development.
