First Black Quarterback Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Warren Moon, a native of Los Angeles, is the first Black quarterback to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2006. Moon was also inducted into the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame in 2001. Moon played 10 of his 17 NFL seasons with the Houston Oilers. He also played with the Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. Moon was bypassed by NFL teams in the 1978 draft after completing his collegiate career at the University of Washington. He went to play for the Edmonton Eskimos, leading the Eskimos to five Grey Cup championships in his six seasons in the CFL. After signing with Houston in 1984, he was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1990. When Moon retired in 2000, he ranked third all-time among NFL quarterbacks with 49,325 passing yards and fourth all-time with 291 touchdown passes.
