What is this virtual event about?

The APSE Virtual Conference is the only national conference focused solely on the advancement of Employment First. The Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) National Conference brings together more than 1,000 key influencers and stakeholders representing individuals with disabilities, communities, agencies, and services to network and discuss state-of-the-art strategies to ensure equitable employment for all citizens with disabilities.

We are offering 40 hours of engaging educational content covering state-of-the-art strategies to ensure equitable employment for all citizens with disabilities.

The National Conference is designed to provide actionable ideas, state-of-the-art programming, as well as tools, solutions, and technologies that will empower you to take directly back to your business, home, and community to impact change. Come ready to learn, network, and do!

What Does Employment First Mean?

Employment First means that employment in the general workforce should be the first and preferred option for individuals with disabilities receiving assistance from publicly-funded systems. Simply put, Employment First means real jobs, real wages.

Employment in the general workforce means regular jobs like everyone else in society: in typical work settings, working side-by-side with people without disabilities, earning regular wages and benefits and being part of the economic mainstream of our society.

APSE supports Employment First to facilitate the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace and community.

Who is putting on this event?

APSE is the only national, non-profit membership organization dedicated to Employment First, a vision that all people with disabilities have a right to competitive employment in an inclusive workforce. People with disabilities should not work sequestered in sheltered workshops, earning only pennies an hour. We want people with disabilities to enjoy the company of a wide range of coworkers, an opportunity for greater financial independence, and the ability to contribute to the economy. We provide our members with the tools, opportunities, and timely information needed to take action and build better workplaces through work with policymakers and employers. APSE is the national voice on workplace inclusion.

Do I have to participate in real-time?

All live events have occurred, but you’re able to access all on-demand content through 12/31/2020!

What timezone will be used for the virtual sessions?

Live session times will be listed in Eastern Daylight Time.

How can I ask speakers questions during the event?

While the live events have occurred, you can follow up in email or connect with the speakers via their information provided during the session!

Will there be opportunities to communicate with the speakers after their specific sessions?

You definitely can but it depends on individual preference of our speakers. But we highly encourage you to reach out to them after the session/event.

What accommodations are available?

For the virtual learning experience, we will have captioning of all events.

You will be able to download the handouts and accompanying materials provided by presenters during the live and recorded events.

Do I have to be an APSE member to register for the Virtual Conference?

You do not need to be an APSE member to attend the Virtual Conference! However, APSE members do receive up to $100 off their registration Fee.

APSE Members must be signed in to their individual member profile in order to receive the membership rate for the conference. The organization account is not eligible for the APSE member discount.

Is the event worth Continuing Education credits?

In the transition to a Virtual Conference we anticipate a greater number of continuing education credits available to those who attend. At the in-person event, you could only attend 12 breakout sessions, you’ll now be able to attend all sessions, keynotes, and panels – that’s over 30+ hours of educational content!

What are the technical requirements?

Generally, all you need to participate is a computer, consistent Internet connection and adequate speakers (or headphones!) to project sound.

What platform are you using to stream the event?

Matchbox Virtual Media is proudly partnered with CE21 to put on this event. You do not need to download any software in order to experience this event.

Are there any browsers that your platform does not support?

The quality will be a little funky on Internet Explorer 8. Although we highly recommend Chrome for the smoothest user experience on any website, here’s a handy link to download Edge, which is Microsoft’s move away from IE: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/microsoft-edge
